Henry Wu – Dubplate Special: watch?v=TAmak35svbAĪcid Arab is a duet from Paris whose goal is to mix all kind of Eastern music (North Africa, Lebanon, Egypt, Turkey or… Mumbai) with electronic sounds, from pioneering acid house to today’s powerful techno. Henry Wu – Good Morning Pecknaam: watch?v=exT1QXQDLSg Henry’s diversity on record is also apparent in his DJ sets, where he deftly speeds up and down to deliver his sound knowledge of funk and jazz, to more contemporary house stylings. Best of all is the supple broken vibes of ‘Back To Brukka’ which would not look out of place on a 2000 Black record. Up top, the chunky shine of ‘Midtour’ is complemented by the sweeter, deeper bump of ‘Sumner Road’ whilst Wu veers off into house mode on the excellent ‘117 Careplan’. This is the sort of 12” DJs adore, such is the variety of mood and tempo explored across both sides. It’s an approach that clearly seduced the guys over at Berlin label Odd Socks, and the four cuts on ‘Motions of Wu Vol 1’ sound every bit as vital as the previous Wu transmission. His capacity for funked up productions wedged in the BPMs between beatdown and house was on full display with his fine release for Alex Nut’s Ho Tep label earlier this year. South Londoner Henry Wu has been rightly labelled as one of the most exciting emerging producers this year. Swindle – Walter’s Call: watch?v=XwJma0MKA0U Swindle has brought together as many people as possible that share the same ethos, and that is spreading a positive message through music. Musically he continues on the jazzy path that his records on Brownswood and Deep Medi put him on the map for, but expands on the live instrumentation, the tempos and the breath of talent featured. The infamous Sub.Mission party in Denver is featured in the track of the same name with music dedicated to the people who have made it a home away from home for Swindle. LA is close to Swindle’s heart as he lived there for two months in 2014 meeting and making music with Ash Riser. Visiting four continents along the way, toasting the Grime roots in London with JME, saluting Swindle’s love and respect for Glasgow and Mungo’s Hifi alongside Flowdan and stopping in Bristol for an uptempo work out with TC, and a 16 bit intro from Joker. Constantly meeting other talented musicians and seeing new places helped naturally form an album that brings together friends and family from across the world together for the first time. Peace, Love & Music is the result of Swindle’s experiences touring globally over the past two years. After this, we couldn’t wait to bring him to The Foundry. After releasing his new album “Peace, Love & Music” earlier this year on seminal grime label Butterz, it instantly turned heads in the industry, and was picked up on by the likes of Toddla T, Annie Mac and Gilles Peterson himself. The warped mind behind some of our favourite releases over the last few years, Swindle has been on our “one to watch” list for a while now.
